The 2006 election is seeing the largest number of state legislative OPEN seats in California history; thirty-six in the Assembly and twelve in the Senate.
Due to the fine are of gerrymandering, winning the June Primary election was tantamount to victory in November in the overwhelming majority of the open seats.
